As we age, stress, sun exposure, gravity, life’s vices and habitual facial expressions can cause wrinkles and forehead creases. Just like women, many men have the desire to reduce the appearance of wrinkles to achieve a more youthful look. For many men this will lead them to seek cosmetic surgery and injectable wrinkle treatments, such as Botox.
A common misconception about Botox is that the area of the face where Botox is injected becomes paralyzed giving the face a noticeably frozen appearance (Think Tim Allen in Christmas with the Kranks). Botox is a natural, purified protein that simply relaxes the wrinkle-causing muscles in the face, providing a refreshed appearance.
Maintaining a Masculine Look
For women, Botox is injected into a “V” formation from the center of the forehead up and outward creating a natural, feminine arch to the eyebrows. However, men are injected differently to maintain the strong, natural eyebrow slant while still smoothing the lines from the forehead. The Botox is injected in a horizontal orientation across the forehead.
Often times men have more prominent lines between their eyebrows that can give the appearance of a permanent scowl as they get older. Botox is injected into the area between the eyebrows to minimize these scowl lines.

What to Expect
At Colorado Plastic Surgery Center in Denver, Botox is injected as a simple no-surgical procedure that is nearly painless and can be completed in just a few minutes. Botox takes four to seven days to take full effect and lasts for three to four months. There is a very small chance of getting a bruise at the injection site, so please plan accordingly. To help minimize the chance of bruising, avoid taking things that may thin the blood. Aspirin is the biggest “offender,” but ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil and some herbal supplements may also cause bruising.
