With Spring lurking just around the corner women across Colorado are packing up the heavy clothes of winter and breaking out the summer gear again, including the swimsuit. If you are like most women, this annual ritual begins with the typically body analysis that may have you wishing you could quickly get rid of some of that unwanted fat and miraculously put it somewhere else – like your derriere. Luckily, wishing is not your only option. Cosmetic surgery offers a solution to this dilemma with the buttocks contouring procedure that has most recently been coined as the “Brazilian Butt Lift.”
This cosmetic fat grafting procedure continues to gain popularity as a result of it’s double benefits. Excess fat cells are removed from one or more areas of the body, including the abdomen, hips or thighs, via liposuction before being transferred into the buttocks.
Despite common misconception, transferring fat cells into another part of the body will not cause a lumpy appearance. The harvested fat cells are carefully processed before being returned, or grafted, into the body. During the fat grafting process, the cells are strategically injected into the various tissues layers of the buttocks to provide more firm, natural looking contours.
Below is an intra-operative photo of a patient’s behind during the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. Notice the fullness of the left buttock where fat cells have already been grafted.
Is fat grafting “permanent” or does it melt away over time?
The goal in fat grafting is to prepare the fat gently and precisely place it in an area that will provide it with nourishment. Fat that is nourished by the buttock muscles and tissues and “takes” is felt to be permanent. Some fullness diminishes during the healing period as the remain fat becomes a permanent part of it’s new home where it’s placed.
Brazilian Butt Lift also treats the surrounding areas to improve overall appearance
Below are two Denver butt augmentation patients’ photos. The first is shown before and six months after the procedure. Notice the enhancement to the buttocks. The second set is shown before and one year after surgery. Notice both the enhancement of the buttocks as well as the curvature in the lower back. The beauty of the procedure is that we are carefully sculpting the areas that frame the buttocks and we then use this fat for the actual augmentation.
