What Is Botox®?

BOTOX is a non-surgical treatment for relieving facial wrinkles, particularly the wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes, and in the “crow's feet” areas on the upper third of the face. Dr. Nick Slenkovich’s expert nurse injectors offer this treatment in our office and provide some of the best BOTOX that Denver has to offer.

What Is In Botox® And How Does It Work?

BOTOX, a botulism toxin, is injected into specifically targeted muscles to decrease movement by blocking transmission of the nerve signal responsible for the muscle contraction.  This decrease in muscle contraction reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially those caused by repetitive facial expressions.

How Is The Procedure Performed?

BOTOX is injected into the facial muscle underlying the problem area. Our Denver BOTOX injection is prepared fresh on the day of the injection. With a very tiny needle, small amounts of BOTOX are injected into the muscles to be relaxed. BOTOX takes about half a second to inject. The number of units needed varies depending on muscle strength and the extent of wrinkles/expression lines. Each treatment is customizable to the patient’s specific goals.

What Can Botox® Treat?

If you have wrinkles on your forehead, between your eyes, or crow’s feet around your eyes, you may be a candidate for our Denver BOTOX treatment. There has to be a muscle movement causing the wrinkle, line, or fold for BOTOX to be effective.

Botox® is for wrinkles caused by the use of facial muscles, such as:

  • The lines between the eyes (caused by muscles for squinting, glaring, or frowning)
  • Crow's feet (caused by squinting, laughing, crying)
  • Or the forehead (caused by a number of animated facial expressions).

BOTOX is also FDA-cleared to block sweat glands in cases of profuse sweating (hyperhidrosis), treat chronic headaches, relax overactive muscles like the masseters that can contribute to TMJ, and soften the appearance of the platysma bands in the neck.

Benefits

Benefits of receiving BOTOX® treatments at Colorado Plastic Surgery Center:

  • Reduces the Appearance of Wrinkles: BOTOX® effectively smooths fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes, forehead, and mouth, providing a more youthful appearance.
  • Quick and Convenient Treatment: The procedure is fast, typically taking only a few minutes, with no downtime required, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule.
  • Prevents Future Wrinkles: Regular BOTOX® treatments can help prevent the formation of new wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for expression lines.
  • Versatile Application: Beyond cosmetic benefits, BOTOX® can also be used to treat medical conditions such as migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms, offering both aesthetic and therapeutic advantages.

From 2011 on, Colorado Plastic Surgery Center has administered 162,961 units of BOTOX®. Out of all our non-filler injectables, we have administered 185,436 units of neurotoxin (that is, BOTOX®, Xeomin, and Dysport® combined!).

Botox® Credentials: Why Choose Us?

It is very important to consider training, injection frequency, and medical experience when choosing a Denver BOTOX injector. Typically, our licensed nurse injectors perform our BOTOX injections. Our nurse injectors have decades of combined experience working with injectables and fillers and have undergone extensive training, including advanced injectable techniques training through Allergan, the manufacturer of BOTOX.

What is Recovery Like?

Discomfort is minimal and lasts only a few seconds. There are no recognized permanent side effects to BOTOX. Occasionally, the tiny needle may puncture a small blood vessel during the injection, and a small black and blue mark may develop. This can last from five to ten days and can require makeup to cover. If any BOTOX reaches a facial muscle that is not being treated, partial weakness of that muscle may last for several months.

Five Tips for BOTOX Recovery

  • Avoid touching the treated areas.
  • Avoid lying down for 4 hours.
  • Skip vigorous exercise and strenuous activities for 24 hours.
  • Avoid massaging or manipulating the injection sites.
  • Follow post-treatment instructions carefully.

Remember to consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice based on your situation.

Who Performs the Procedure?

Dr. Nick believes that, although BOTOX is a minimally invasive treatment, it is best administered by skilled, aesthetic, medically trained personnel. Indeed, that is the safest approach anytime the face or eye areas are involved in a procedure. That’s why he hand-selected our certified nurse injectors for their extensive expertise, decades of combined experience, and advanced training in BOTOX treatment, ensuring safe, natural-looking results that reflect our commitment to patient care and excellence.

Dr. Slenkovich likes to say that BOTOX is one of the few things in life that does exactly what it says it’s going to do because it works perfectly at relaxing muscles. In the past, we had little choice but to accept facial wrinkles as part of aging. Today, however, we have the ability to soften these lines and restore a fresh, youthful look—enhancing not only our appearance but our sense of confidence as well.

BOTOX® FAQs

Do BOTOX® Injections Hurt?

Like all injections, BOTOX injections can hurt a little; however, BOTOX is administered using a very small needle, so you may not feel much more than a prick. A topical anesthetic cream may be applied to aid in your comfort during injections.

How Many Units of BOTOX® will I Need?

It is impossible to say exactly how many units of BOTOX you will need without a prior consultation. The amount of BOTOX you will need will be determined by several factors, including the following:

  • The size of your forehead
  • Your gender (men tend to have larger features than women and tend to have stronger facial muscles)
  • Your goals
  • How strong your muscles are/how much movement you have
  • Areas you want to have treated

For an estimate based on the areas you want treated, see the Price Estimator (link) tool on our website. Click the areas of concern on your face and follow the steps to receive an estimate.

Will My Face Look Frozen or Unnatural?

Absolutely not. In the hands of our skilled injectors, BOTOX injections are expertly administered, producing elegant, sophisticated results. Our injectors have extensive experience administering facial injectables, and we pride ourselves on delivering natural-looking results. See our injectables gallery or check out our Instagram page to see more.

Is BOTOX® Safe?

Yes, BOTOX is FDA-approved for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles in several areas, including the forehead, between the eyebrows, and outside of the eyes (often referred to as “crow’s feet”). Beyond cosmetic use, BOTOX is also approved for medical treatments such as relaxing masseter muscles for TMJ, softening platysma bands in the neck, alleviating chronic migraines, and managing hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

When Will I See Results from BOTOX® Injections?

You will begin to see the results of your BOTOX injections within a few days, with maximum results visible in approximately 30 days.

Does BOTOX® Prevent New Wrinkles from Forming?

Yes! Your facial muscles contract hundreds of times each day, which is the root of fine lines and wrinkles. By injecting BOTOX into your facial muscles, you are not only temporarily smoothing fine lines and wrinkles but also preventing them from becoming more deeply etched into the skin and underlying tissue.

Will I Still Be Able to Look Expressive?

Absolutely. While BOTOX reduces the ability of your facial muscles to move, it does not completely inhibit your ability to make natural facial expressions when the product is administered properly.

How Long Does BOTOX® Last?

BOTOX injections usually last 3-6 months. For optimal results, we recommend being treated four times a year. If we use a dermal filler in conjunction with the BOTOX, the filler will have its own timeline for effectiveness.

BOTOX Testimonial

I recently saw Jordan for lip filler, BOTOX, and under-eye PRP and had the BEST experience! I was nervous about trying lip filler, but Jordan made me feel comfortable and educated me on my options. My lips are enhanced, though they appear natural and symmetrical, and my upper lip no longer disappears when I smile! Jordan did a phenomenal job with my BOTOX placement. This was my first BOTOX experience that didn't leave me bruised! Under-eye PRP has been a game-changer! I had puffy, dark under-eyes due to genetics. After two treatments, my under-eye skin tone is brighter, and the texture is more firm! Jordan took her time to explain the entire process and answered all of my questions! Jordan has exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend her!
