How is the Procedure Done?
Microneedling – Also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), micropen or automated microneedling – utilizes a motorized pen with 12 tiny micro-needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process triggers new collagen and elastin production, resulting in smoother, firmer, and younger-looking skin. There are several different brands of microneedling systems. We utilize the Eclipse Micropen Elite™ at Colorado Plastic Surgery Center.
During your treatment, our licensed medical aesthetician will attach a sterile cartridge containing the 12 tiny micro-needles to the applicator pen. A thin layer of numbing agent is applied to the skin initially for your comfort. Next, a topical gel is applied to the skin, and customized settings are selected to meet each patient’s unique needs. The micropen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. The total treatment time is typically 30-45 minutes.
