What Is Botox?
Botox is a non-surgical facial filler treatment for relieving facial wrinkles, particularly the wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes, and in the “crows feet” areas on the upper third of the face. Dr. Nick Slenkovich and his staff offer this treatment at our surgical center and provide some of the best results in Botox Denver has to offer.
What is in Botox and How Does It Work?
Botox is a botulism toxin that is injected into muscles. It works by relaxing the muscle by blocking transmission of the nerve signal to the muscles. Normally, when the pull of the muscles relaxes, the overlying skin flattens.
Sometimes we relax the underlying muscle and the wrinkle, crease, fold or line is still visible. In that case, we use Botox to relax the muscle, and we use a dermal filler to fill in the crease.
How Is The Procedure Performed?
Botox is injected into the facial muscle underlying the problem area. Our Denver Botox injection is prepared fresh on the day of the injection. With a very tiny needle, small amounts of Botox are injected into the muscles to be paralyzed. Botox takes about a half a second to inject. The number of units needed varies depending on muscle strength and the extent of wrinkles/expression lines.
What Can Botox Treat?
If you have wrinkles on your forehead, between your eyes, or crow’s feet around your eyes, you may be a candidate for our Denver Botox treatment. For wrinkles in any area where there is not a muscle or areas where the wrinkle is present when the muscle is at rest, then Botox is not a good option. There has to be a muscle movement causing the wrinkle, line or fold for Botox to be effective. Botox also works for blocking sweat glands in cases of profuse sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Botox is for wrinkles caused by the use of facial muscles, such as:
- the lines between the eyes (caused by muscles for squinting, glaring or frowning)
- crows feet (caused by squinting, laughing, crying)
- or the forehead (caused by a number of animated facial expressions).

Benefits of receiving BOTOX treatments at Colorado Plastic Surgery:
- Reduces the Appearance of Wrinkles: BOTOX effectively smooths fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes, forehead, and mouth, providing a more youthful appearance.
- Quick and Convenient Treatment: The procedure is fast, typically taking only a few minutes, with no downtime required, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule.
- Prevents Future Wrinkles: Regular BOTOX treatments can help prevent the formation of new wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles responsible for expression lines.

From 2011 and on, Colorado Plastic Surgery has administered 162,961 units of BOTOX. Out of all our non-filler injectables, we have administered 185,436 units of neurotoxin (that is BOTOX, Xeomin, and Dysport combined!).
Botox Credentials: Why Choose Us?
It is very important to consider training, injection frequency and medical experience when considering who to have do your Denver Botox injections. Typically, our licensed medical aestheticians and injection specialists, perform our Botox injections.
Our nurse practitioners have over 10 years of experience working with injectables and fillers and has undergone extensive training, including advanced injectable techniques training through Allergan, the manufacturers of Botox.
What is Recovery Like?
Discomfort is minimal and lasts only a few seconds. There are no recognized permanent side effects to Botox. Occasionally, the tiny needle may puncture a small blood vessel during the injection, and a small black and blue mark may develop. This can last from five to ten days and can require makeup to cover. If any Botox reaches a facial muscle not being treated, partial weakness of that muscle may last for several months.
Five Tips for Botox Recovery:
- Avoid touching the treated areas.
- Stay upright and avoid lying down for a few hours.
- Skip vigorous exercise and strenuous activities for 24 hours.
- Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
- Follow post-treatment instructions carefully.
Remember to consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice based on your situation.
Who Performs the Procedure?
Unlike many other offices, spas or clinics, at Colorado Plastic Surgery Center we do not have a technician perform our Denver Botox injections. Dr. Nick believes that, although Botox is a minimally invasive treatment, it is best administered by a skilled aesthetic medically trained personnel. Indeed that is the safest approach any time the face or eye areas are involved in a procedure.
Dr. Slenkovich likes to say that Botox is one of the few things in life that does exactly what it says it’s going to do because it works perfectly at relaxing muscles. Years ago, we had to just accept facial wrinkles and aging. But in this day and age, there is no reason to live with facial wrinkles that make you look and feel old.
If you have wrinkles on your forehead or between your eyebrows, or “crow’s feet” at the outer edges of your eyes, Botox can make an immediate difference. Botox is a non-surgical treatment that provides temporary erasure of facial wrinkles and lasts from 4-12 months.
Botox Testimonials
Juli was absolutely amazing. She made my visit so comfortable and was very informative. I went in for Botox and lip filler and I couldn’t be happier with my results. I will absolutely recommend her and will definitely be back for a follow up!
I had my very first treatment of Botox, which I won during a raffle, with Juli Covelli-Pachek and she explained everything and made recommendations for what areas to treat. She made it very comfortable. It was a great experience overall and I am definitely going to see Juli again!
Frequently Asked Questions
Do BOTOX Injections Hurt?
Like all injections BOTOX injections can hurt a little, however, BOTOX is administered using a very small needle, so you may not feel much more than a prick. A topical anesthetic cream may be applied to aid in your comfort during injections if you desire.
How Many Units of BOTOX will I Need?
It is impossible to say exactly how many units of BOTOX you will need without a prior consultation. The amount of BOTOX you will need will be determined by several factors including:
- The size of your forehead
- Your gender (men tend to have larger features than women)
- The depth of your facial lines
Having said that, Allergan (the manufacturer of BOTOX) recommends an average of eight to twenty units are appropriate for smoothing forehead lines and creases.
Will My Face Look Frozen or Unnatural?
Absolutely not. In the hands of Dr. Slenkovich, BOTOX injections are expertly administered producing elegant, sophisticated results. Dr. Slenkovich has extensive experience administering facial injectables, and produces lovely, smooth natural-looking results - not frozen or expressionless.
Is BOTOX Safe?
Yes. BOTOX is FDA approved for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead and outside of the eyes (often referred to as “crow’s feet”) and is considered to be safe.
When Will I See Results from BOTOX Injections?
You will begin to see results of your BOTOX injections immediately, with maximum results visible in approximately 30 days.
Does BOTOX Prevent New Wrinkles from Forming?
Yes! Your facial muscles contract hundreds of times each day, which is the root of fine lines and wrinkles. By injecting BOTOX into your facial muscles, you are not only temporarily smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, but also preventing the them from becoming more deeply-etched into the skin and underlying tissue.
Will I Still Be Able to Look Expressive?
Absolutely. While BOTOX reduces the ability of your facial muscles to move, it does not completely inhibit your ability to make natural facial expressions when the product is administered properly.
How Long Does Botox Last?
Botox injections usually last between 3- 6 months, though sometimes as long as 4-12 months, depending on your individual facial muscles. If we use a dermal filler in conjunction with the Botox, the filler will have its own timeline for effectiveness.
In addition to treating Denver Botox patients, Colorado Plastic Surgery Center offers a range of facial injectables, including Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane.
