Denver breast augmentation patients now have a new breast implant option to obtain the breast shape they desire. In February, the FDA approved the newest type of form stable silicone gel breast implants, the Natrelle 410.
What is Form Stable Silicone Gel?
In 2006, the first version of cohesive silicone gel implants was approved by the FDA. The form stable silicone implant is the next generation of silicone gel breast implants. Both types of implants feature a medical grade silicone gel that is specifically designed to adhere to itself minimizing the possibility of the silicone moving outside of the breast should the implant casing leak or rupture. The 2006 cohesive silicone gel implants feature a soft, more compliant style of silicone gel while maintaining cohesive properties. The new form stable silicone implant feature a firmer consistency than the cohesive silicone gel implants. For analogy comparisons, the form stable silicone implants have a consistency similar to soft gummy treats, while the cohesive gel implants have a consistency similar to Jello that has fully set up. Hence the nickname “gummy
bear” implant that popular media has given to the form stable silicone implants.
A Closer Look at Natrelle 410
The Natrelle 410 form stable silicone breast implant features a teardrop shape with a greater fullness in the lower portion of the implant and less fullness in the upper portion of the implant similar to the natural shape of breasts. The Natrelle 410 requires the form stable silicone gel to maintain the teardrop (or anatomical) shape.
Unlike the smooth external casing found on the round cohesive silicone gel and saline implants, the Natrelle 410 consists of a textured implant casing. The textured casing is designed to prevent the implant from shift in the body after implantation during breast augmentation surgery.
In addition, the Natelle 410 has shown significantly lower incidence of capsular contracture during clinical trials than the round implants (Capsular contracture is the most common complication in breast augmentation patients where the scar tissue around the implant hardens and constricts).
What Makes Natrelle 410 Different from Other Form Stable Implants?
In 2012, the FDA approved the first version of form stable silicone breast implants for use in the United States manufactured by Sientra, who at the same time became an FDA approved breast implant manufacturer for the U.S. The Natrelle 410 is manufactured by Allergan, Colorado Plastic Surgery Center’s preferred breast implant provider, and the long-time, established manufacturer of leading cosmetic products, including Botox, Juvederm and Latisse, as well as breast implants.
Who Is a Candidate for the Natrelle 410 Breast Implants?
The Natrelle 410 implant is essentially another tool in your cosmetic surgeon’s toolbox to help achieve your goals. As such, it may not be the right breast implant for every woman. Women who are candidates for the Natrelle 410 have minimal breast sagging, tighter skin consistency, slimmer builds, desire a moderate size increase of two cup sizes or less, and desire a more natural breast shape after surgery.
