What is the Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift is a surgical procedure in which liposuction is used to remove fat from one area of the body. The harvested fat is then injected directly into the buttocks. The result is a shapelier derriere that provides better body proportion and more sensuous curves to the body profile.
Dr. Slenkovich will help you choose the best location for liposuction to create a smoother curve in one area of the body while rounding out the backside. Options for fat removal include the hips, abdomen, calves, back and thighs. It is important to be able to remove sufficient fat cells to create the rounder contours you are hoping for in the buttocks. In some cases, fat may be removed from more than one area to truly sculpt the body contour you are looking for.
The best candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift are:
- All around healthy, non-smokers
- Have sufficient fat in another area for successful fat transfer
- Have good blood flow to the buttocks area
- Have realistic goals and expectations
Dr. Slenkovich works with each patient to determine if a Brazilian Butt Lift will provide them their desired results. A thorough patient history and physical examination will ensure you are in the best possible shape for surgery.
The Fat Transfer Procedure
Fat removal is done via liposuction, which involves a very narrow cannula that is inserted directly into the fat deposit. The cannula loosens the fat tissue while gently suctioning it out of the body. Tiny incisions are created to allow for access of the cannula, which usually do not require suturing or leave scarring afterward.
Once the fat is removed, it is purified to ensure the best possible results from the fat injections. This process is done in a single treatment session at our office, for convenience of our patients and efficiency of the procedure. Once fat is harvested, it is injected into strategic locations around the buttocks to create a natural, full look to the backside.
Recovering from a Brazilian Butt Lift
During the first few days after surgery, the buttocks may be slightly swollen and tender. Liposuction incisions may also be slightly bruised and swollen. Oral pain medication will be prescribed to help you manage any post-operative discomfort in those early days.
Initially, your buttocks may look larger than you had hoped, due to swelling and injection of slightly more fat than was needed to achieve desired results. In the weeks following the procedure, patients typically lose 20-40 percent of the fat that was injected, which reduces the size and fullness of the buttocks.
Recovery from a Brazilian Butt Lift does take significant time, since patients may not put any pressure on the buttocks for the first few weeks after surgery. Patients are given a special compression garment to wear after the procedure for a number of weeks to promote healthy blood flow and healing to the area. Most patients are able to return to work within two weeks after the procedure, but will need to use a special cushion when they sit to avoid direct pressure on the buttocks.
