A few years ago, women considering breast augmentation surgery gained another option for enhancing their feminine curves. In February 2013, the FDA approved Allergan’s Natrelle 410 silicone breast implants for mass market use. This form stable breast implant has been highly anticipated by surgeons, as well as patients. Known by the popular nickname “The Gummy Bear” implant, form stable breast implants allowed for the development of a tear drop shaped implant that would maintain its shape when a woman changed positions, such as leaning over or laying down.
Since the approval of the Natrelle 410 implant last year, Denver plastic surgeon Dr. Nick Slenkovich has been using the implant for breast augmentation patients who desire a variety of appearances. The most common use to date is for women who desire a modest size increase and want to maintain a very natural looking breast shape with greater volume at the bottom of the breast and less volume in the upper portion of the breast.
Below are examples of women who have undergone breast augmentation with the Natrelle 410 silicone breast implants.
This patient did not desire a large volume increase, but wished to fill out her clothing more naturally and have a bit more prominent curvature to her breasts. She was adamant that she didn’t want an augmented, over round appearance to her breasts. She is shown before and six weeks after 225cc 410 silicone implants were placed. She is incredibly happy with her results.
This patient desired fuller breasts, but did not want an obvious augmented appearance. For women who have tighter tissues, a round implant may give an overly rounded image of the breast. With a relatively minor amount of existing breast tissue and fairly tight skin tissue, she was an optimal candidate for the Natrelle 410 implants. As a result, she has some fullness in the upper portion of the breast. She is shown before and three months after 295cc 410 silicone implants were placed.
This patient was happy with the shape of her breasts, she felt they were a natural shape for a woman in her late 30s. However, she had experienced deflation after breastfeeding two children. She desired fuller breasts, but wanted to maintain the overall shape of her breasts. She is shown before and six weeks after 335cc 410 silicone implants were placed.
There are many different reasons and goals for which a plastic surgeon and the patient may choose to Natrelle 410 silicone implant over the traditional round silicone gel implant.
