Xeomin® (pronounced zee-oh-min) is the newest product in the line of non-surgical wrinkle reduction treatments available. An injection based treatment, Xeomin can effectively reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines that often make patients feel they look tired, angry or aged.
What is Xeomin?
Xeomin is botulinum toxin that can be used as an alternative to Botox® or Dysport®. Over time, our repetitive facial expression, such as frowning or squinting, can cause persistent lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth and across the forehead. Botulinum toxins work by temporarily blocking the nerve’s chemical signals that control movement in a muscle causing the muscle to relax effectively reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
How is Xeomin different from Botox or Dysport?
Unlike Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is a naked protein, meaning it does not carry additional proteins surrounding the botulinum toxin molecule. Some patients that have used botulinum injections for an extended period of time may experience a decrease in effectiveness of the product as their body naturally builds up antibodies to the additive proteins. Xeomin’s “naked” formulation decreases the possibility of the body developing antibodies eliminating concerns about developing immunity to the treatments.
Xeomin is purported to take effect quicker as a result of its naked formulation with results apparent at 2-4 days and typically lasting up to four months.
Is Xeomin safe?
Yes. Xeomin underwent two separate clinical trials. As a result of these clinical trials, Xeomin is FDA approved for treating frown lines to the glabellar region (between the eyebrows).
What areas can be treated with Xeomin?
Xeomin is prescribed to relax the muscles in the glabellar region to reduce the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows. In addition, Xeomin can be used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles across the forehead and at the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet). Xeomin may also be used to lift the eyebrows, smooth out fine lines around the mouth or add a lift to the outer corners of the lips.
How are treatments done?
Our highly skilled cosmetic nurse injection specialist administers Xeomin into the desired facial areas through a series of small injections. With over 15 years of injectables experience, our cosmetic injectables specialist utilizes her technical expertise to determine the amount of Xeomin to inject and the optimal areas to administer the treatment to obtain the desired results. This expertise and experience provides results that are more natural and minimizes the possibility of the “frozen” appearance with little or no existing movement.
Xeomin is administered on a treatment area basis, rather than the by unit basis, to insure you are receiving the adequate amount of product to obtain the desired result. Treatment appointments typical take about 15 minutes.
